About UsWelcome to the Community Health Promotion Division at the Williamson County and Cities Health District. We are a dedicated staff working to support you in your commitment to making positive behavior and environmental changes relating most specifically to physical activity and good nutrition. So to provide you this support, we have formed local partnerships in Williamson County to establish community gardens in a neighborhood near you.
Two recent surveys completed in Williamson County revealed that 80% of both our youth and adults are consuming less than the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day (2004 BRFSS, 2005 YAWN) It also revealed that 63% of our adults are overweight and 36% of our youth are at risk for being overweight or obese. This is twice the national average. So we encourage you to make that commitment to eat healthy and live an active lifestyle through community gardening. It can prevent future health problems such as heart disease and obesity. In fact, five of the ten leading causes of death are associated with diets high in fat, low in fiber and low in fruits and vegetables (MT BRFSS 1996). Check out the latest Garden Updates
